Homemade Peach Ice Cream

Ingredients:
1 qt. milk
1 cup milk
1 pt. cream, whipped
2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 pt. mashed peaches
1 tbsp. flour
pinch of salt

Instruction:
Make a smooth custard of milk, eggs, sugar & flour over low heat. Allow to cool. Add peaches, then whipped cream, a pinch of salt and another cup of milk. Freeze.

Variations: Substitute your favorite fruit for the peaches.

Divinity Candy

Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup white karo syrup

Cook these until they thread.
Don’t stir while cooking.

Instruction:
Beat 2 egg whites until stiff and pour cooked syrup over egg whites. Fold in, drop from teaspoon onto waxed paper. Put a nutmeat in center. Package for gift giving. Dated 12/18/1947.

Bread & Butter Pickles

Ingredients:
1 gal sliced cucumbers
2 sweet peppers
8 onions
1/2 cup salt
Pack in ice for 3 hours, Drip out and dry.
4 cups sugar
4 cups vinegar
1 1/2 tsp tumeric
1/2 ground cloves
2 tbsp mustard seed
1 tbsp. celery seed

Instruction:
Bring to a boil, then place in hot jars and seal.

5 Minute Fudge

Ingredients:
1 2/3 cups sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 pkg semisweet chocolate pieces (1 1/2 cups)
1/4 lb marshmallows
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Instruction:
In 2 qt. pan, combine first 4 ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, add chocolate and next three ingredients. Beat vigorously until marshmallows melt. Pour into pan, let set, cut & enjoy.

Frosted Pecans

Ingredients:
1/2 cup dairy sour cream
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups pecan halves

Instruction:
Combine sour cream, sugar & vanilla in a 2 qt. heavy saucepan. Cool to soft ball stage, 234 degrees, stirring frequently to prevent scorching. Add pecans & stir to coat. Turn onto buttered baking sheet. Separate with 2 forks. Package & freeze in airtight containers if you like.

Cranberry Pie

Ingredients:
1 lb pkg. whole cranberries
2 oranges
3 cups sugar
1/2 gal ice cream, softened
1/2 cup ground pecans
3 graham cracker crusts

Instruction:
Grind cranberries, peel & grind oranges. Add together, and mix with sugar. Add to softened ice cream. Fill pie crusts & add ground pecans.
Freeze till set. Serve immediately.

Dora’s Pear Relish

Ingredients:
1 peck pears (2 gallons)
3 red peppers
5 med. onions

4 cups vinegar
2 lbs sugar
1 tsp. tumeric
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. mustard seed
1/4 tsp celery seed
2 tbsp. mixed spice (1 tsp each. cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, ginger)

Instruction:
Tie all of the spices in a bag of thin cloth. Heat vinegar & sugar. Add pears, onions, peppers. Cook 30 minutes or longer. Can in hot jars or seal with wax.
