Man! Is she growing! Per the last vet visit she is gaining a 1/2 pound daily. When I got her she was 11 pounds, and as of yesterday she is 23 pounds. Also, per all three vets she has now seen (she was seen last wednesday for canine acne on her belly [it is now cleared up]), they are all of a conscensus that she is a newfie / rottie cross. Not the newfie / retreiver as thought at the pound where I got her.
She was born Dec 20th. Yesterday she was 14 weeks old and she received her last booster shot and her rabies. She has discovered a taste for ice cubes and in the one shot she is diving for a cube. I find it amazing that at 14 weeks she is already unafraid to stick her nose entirely under water.
To train her further, I will find a favorite toy and place it at the bottom of her water bowl. This is part of water rescue training and she seems to be a natural. She is already jumping in her baby pool to play with a basketball I put in there.
Another milestone was last night. Her new crate was delivered and I made room for it in my bedroom. She was sleeping in a smaller crate in the livingroom and apparently did not like it there at night. She would wake me up at 4 or 5 am to go out. Not that she needed too… because as she had already stopped the nightly #2′s 2 weeks ago, but she was still tinkling in it on the paper.
Last night, she spent the first night in her new crate, in my room and she not only slept all night, but she also had a dry crate this morning. She even let me sleep in a little.
She has learned to sit and to lay down… and I am teaching her that she has to sit to be let out of her cage and outside. She is also still taking your hands in her mouth; not biting but pinching. That I am still trying to break… but I think it her her way of establishing a connection with me.
I added another picture this week. The last picture is with Kiki, our mama dog and queen of the roost. She stands knee high and is 63 pounds. You can see how close Calypso is to catching up to her in size.
Hopefully, having the pup to play with will help Kiki lose some of the extra poundage she has gained.

I left a comment and it disappeared!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE Newfies. They are my most favorite dog in the entire world. I had a Newfie puppy for two weeks, but had to give it back when we moved to an apartment.
We had a Great Dane for a year, but moving to a rental house we had to sell him.
I had St. Bernard dogs when I grew up, that’s where my love of big dogs comes from.
We had a couple of German Shephers when the ex and I were together too.
Shannon’s dog is a cocker spaniel/terrier cross that almost looks like those new Golden Doodles, but stupid as hell and skittish too. I want a big dog, like a Golden Lab now. But she won’t get another dog.
Sigh. She’s a cute one though.
Hugs and prayers.
