First of all let me say that I am not going to include any spoilers here… but, I want to thank Catherine Hardwicke, Melissa Rosenberg, and Stephenie Meyer for sticking as close to the book as they could on the low budget that they had to work with. (Maybe more movies would fare better this way… hmmm)
This movie garners a 5 feathers up from this bird on a scale from 1 – 5. If you’ve read the books then I am sure that you know what to expect. This is a teen-angst filled love story between human and vampire. The story is all about what those teens are thinking, what they are feeling and how they deal with it. It is NOT an action packed, blood and gore type story… so if that is what you are expecting when you go to the movie, then you will be deeply disappointed.
I have read some of the reviews over at IMDb and I can see that some just didn’t get the plot line and most forgot that this story was aimed at tweens and teens, not the older adult mind.
The teen mind is all about angst (well, mostly anyway) and their raging hormones. Some are capapble of deep thought, but most are not analytical or practicality minded. It is romance, dreams and white picket fences over the realistic versions of life. They haven’t quite lost the ability to believe in things that an older adult knows, or should know, that they don’t always happen.
Fantasy stories are for the mind that can believe in possibilities and Twilight is full of fantasy and possibilities. Maybe this is where some reviewers just didn’t get it. Possiblities. Fantasy. Both are and can be mind blowers. The endless possiblities of the inner depths of the writer’s mind. Fantasies, where anything can happen and it usually does. I live and breathe this world because I, for one, have not lost that hope; that romantic ideal and they both live happily in co-existance with my inner adult practicality.
Open your mind before you go see the movie. Bring back your hopes and ideals when you sit down to watch and you will be happy you did. This movie is not about conversations but with the silent look that used to make you melt. It is about the touch that made your knees weak and the kiss that took your breath away and made butterflies take wing in the pit of your stomach. I can still remember those days… and I truly wish that they still existed. Maybe in the next life, eh?
