at the news I heard this morning on my radio as I was driving in to work. It seems that this presidential election has taken a turn that no one could have predicted.
It seems that kids are the new warriors in the election process, albeight unwittingly. Depending on which candidate these kids have taken to, via their parents, also depends on whether or not these kids are being threatened, harrassed and otherwise tormented by other children.
Most of these kids are middle & high schoolers. This is the deep south… the bible belt and things tend to take on a deeper passion than in most places. Now, because of who the candidates are… there is now a race card being built upon and carried out with a vengance.
I wonder if these two men are even aware of what is happening in America’s schools across the country and if they even care. School principles are having to hire extra security to keep fighting to a minimum. School property is being destroyed. Kids are being bullied and beaten and they are terrified to show their support outside of the home.
How many of these kids really know the candidates and what they stand for? How many are being influenced by extremist parents who are taking things out of context at home and in public? How many kids have to be hurt by this before the candidates take steps to calm the masses? Do they even know what is happening in their own country?
This is SUPPOSED to be a learning experience for this generation of children. This should be a fun and interesting time for them. I have heard that some schools are so certain that violence will erupt after the elections that the schools have already planned on shutting down the next day… or will have extra campus security on hand.
WTF people? Can you not see what you and your beliefs are doing to a whole generation of kids? Take a few steps back and open your eyes and see it for yourself. Ask your kids if they are afraid to go to school… and then maybe we might have a violence free election… as it should be.
I just can’t honestly believe that I live in such a predjudiced society… it just makes me sick to think that maybe a kid somewhere might die over this. My heart is heavy folks… and I just don’t know how to fix it.

In the late 1700s John Adams predicated that the two party system, then just taking shape, would be the demise of our form of government. I believe it just took a bit longer than he anticipated. This election will mark a turning point in American politics, wait and see. It won’t be getting any better until it gets worse.
For many years I have felt the two party government system we have lacked so much—I am so often asked which Party I am for—I am not for a party—I try very hard to evaluate—what is best for me when I cast my ballot—knowing what I feel is best for me just might not be what the next person feels is best for them—but that is the nice thing we have the freedom to make the choice.
This year has been one like I have never experienced since I begin voting—I have seen friendships destroyed and even families are being broken apart. The other issue is the local, state elections versus Presidential elections—It was a bitter pill for me to swallow last election when my sister chose to tell me why Max Cleland did not deserve to be elected again because after all he did not receive his injuries in the Vietnam War—and went on to tell me all about the propaganda that was being sent out about him and people like her believed it.
I guess I have a bitter taste in my mouth with all the negative ads that are going on but I understand if one is going to do it the other can not stand back and let it go—-I am just ready for it to be over but there is a very good chance we will see a run off in the State Senate because the Libertarian might pull away some votes but not enough so either of the other two will get over 50%—or that is what I am hearing.
At the end of the day—none of this is worth a life. Having said all this I voted today.
here in the mountains we are rather isolated ( and poor) and it seems many are blase about the race thing, but are wary of politicians in general. we just want to be left alone!
There is a lot I could say. I will leave my own prejudicis out of it. It comes down to one thing. Respect for your peers, respect for yourself and respect for your government. Remeber the race riots in school back in the late 60′s and 70′s? Same song, same verse a little diferent but still the same ol thing. Schools are a good petri dish for our societies standing in the current day. We suck people, And I don’t have the soulution. We have not changed. I have not changed. I accept it for what it is and stand for my own beliefs which I will not discuss here.
I kinda hear you talking about yourself here. How many other parents are like your own DH? It is frightening to think about.
Kids are influenced by parents, and not taught to know their own minds, and mostly let others guide them as their interests are what is right in front of them in the moment. One of the hardest things to teach children is to look ahead and plan ahead. They want what they want when they want it, and not bother with tomorrow. Few children have the capacity to look ahead to tomorrow or weeks ahead or years ahead of them.
IMHO, and I have already voted!
