Busier than a bee in spring…

I been busy… writing, cleaning, working and all around playing house.

I have started taking gem cutting lessons with the old man. It was interesting to see how this stuff works. I want to learn to cast jewelry and make it from scratch. The old man wants to learn how to cut his own stones. Between us, we might learn enough to start making our own line of jewelry to sell… watcha think of that? It has helped to settle some of the angst between us somewhat and I am glad… the kid has a few more years of growing (mentally and physically) before I can cut some strings.

Work is going OK, but the trucking woes have started to make their problems known. It doesn’t help that gas prices are through the roof. My job has not started to feel the pinch yet, but it is not far off. Thankfully our product is now made in the states, so we are not having to deal with the cost of shipping overseas and dealing with lost or damaged containers any more.

There was a gem show this weekend at a local civic center. I couldn’t go for reasons you will see below… but I am sure it was nice.

My mom and dad came up and we spent Friday evening at Ryans Steak House and it was delish! Needless to say I ate too much! heh… oh well. We don’t have steak around here too often.

Mom and dad came back down to visit Saturday and I spent the entire morning cleaning house. I was pooped by the time they got here but I wouldn’t trade the time spent for anything. I miss being close enough to spend daily time… maybe someday. :)

Today was spent with the old mans mom and sister. They went to the gem show, while I stayed home recovering from all the cleaning I did. My body doesn’t take the punishment like it used to. He also took his mom to his dads gravesite. It is located in a confederate cemetery that has been declared a Georgia historical site. She doesn’t get to go often, and at her age (83) she can’t drive any more, so I am glad he could take her there.

The old mans sister is recovering from her last chemo treatment for cancer. She looks great and has more get up and go than I thought she would. I don’t think the hubby could handle losing another sibling so soon… so I am thankful for her recovery for many reasons. She is a sweet lady and this world would not be the same without her.

Other new:
I advertised on a local freecycle for a laptop and found one that was not too old. I bought a case, a laptop fan and a new battery. I am now writing on the book with renewed gusto. I have also recently found an illustrator and she is great! I was so taken by her sketches. It is like she was in my mind and knew exactly what I had envisioned. At least with the laptop I am not having to fight for computer time. All I need now is wireless and I am set!

The pest is still here… (Hush, I can hear your grumblings), but only for a week or two more. He got his disability granted and he has tax money coming. They owe him for two years back pay on the disability, and they have to pay it in one lump sum. Thankfully he has gotten that and will no longer need us once his checks come in. He is sleeping on the couch (heh) and finally realises that he is on borrowed time. He is nicer and less argumentative. He has stayed out of family business, but every once in a while he gets on a nerve or two… I am just counting down the days, ifyouknowwhatImean…

That is all my news for now… from a famous “Friends” line: “How YOU doin’?”
