My hubby was basking in his football winnings on several squares when he broached a subject that got me to thinking… yea, I know… I was thinking, so get over it! lol
As he sat there he said the one superbowl game he would love to see is Eli against Payton. Manning vs Manning.
Now I know this won’t happen unless one of the teams is moved out of the Eastern Division, but… let’s just say that in the near future they were and they both ended up in the Superbowl.
Would you trust that the game was not given to one brother over the other? What I mean to say, would you trust that one quarterback would not throw a game just so his brother could win the game?
I asked wiki.answers.com if any brothers have ever played in the SB and this is what it came back with:
Have two brothers ever played against each other in the Super Bowl?
NO! BUT, there have been 18 sets of brothers to play in the Super Bowl, one set having three brothers, but none have ever faced each other. Only 2 sets have played in the same Super Bowl but were on the same team. Glenn & Lyle Blackwood for the Dolphins twice (1983 & 1985) and Archie & Ray Griffin for the Bengals (1982). Keith and Jim Fahnhorst were both on the 49ers in Super Bowl 85 but Jim was inactive for the game.
Now I ask you… how would you react to a win/loss with brothers as quarterbacks in the SB? Would you trust that it was a fair game and trust the brothers to do the right thing?
Your thoughts?

Two quick points. First, Peyton and Eli Manning could easily play each other in the Superbowl, since it is a game between the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). The Indianapolis Colts are in the AFC North; the New York Giants are in the NFC East. No problems there.
As for would they do the right thing, I would say a resounding, “YES!” You see, they want to win games so that they can go to the Superbowl, and they want to win the Superbowl more than any other game.
I think that the winning brother would commiserate with the losing brother and the losing brother would congratulate the winning brother, but that’s all after the game.
I KNEW Carlo would clarify that! I do believe that the brothers would both play to win, they love the game too much not to. The absolute glee on Peyton’s face during the game brought a smile to my face. I can just about hear the ribbing of each other before that game would be played. And the congrats and genuine happiness for the winning brother. Then again, I’m a Pollyanna, I try to see the good in all and I love happy endings.
First of all, there is so much going on in the game plays, that it would be difficult to know where one brother was on the field, let alone keeping track of each other.
Second, I am sure there would be penalties if one brother decided to help the other, so many players nearby, and the referee’s….surely there would be flags galore hitting the ground. I would hate to have to pay those penalties myself….and ruin the Superbowl, and the chance to get that ring and all the other prizes they give out for player of the game.
IMHO….:D
It came within two games of exactly that result: had Indy not stumbled against SD, and had Indy managed to go on and play the quality of game they were playing early in the year against the slumping Patriots….we would have had just that match-up in SB 42.
Maybe next year.
Brothers compete as much as they cooperate. I think they’d scrap all the harder for it. Lifelong bragging rights like that don’t come easy.
