I have to say that this movie got put to the wayside by many movie goers because of Mel Gibson’s comments during his DUI arrest and that is a sad thing indeed. When they protested his drunken remarks by not seeing this movie, they missed out on a spectacular feast for the eyes. I wonder, now that the movie is out on video, how many are still “protesting” by refusing to rent this movie.
It truly is a shame that some people are casting the first stones, when they themselves are not perfect. I believe that this was something that Mel had hidden deep inside and we all know that alcohol is an enabler. I do believe that if he had been sober the events that took place then would have been much different.
My point here is that it is time to put away your “stones” people and watch a movie that had all the ingredients to win many Academy Awards. It had three nominations, but the ones that really counted were not there. RE: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography.
Do yourself a favor and rent this movie. The characters are captivating, the scenery is spectacular and the plot will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to the end. I personally was enthralled by it. The captions do not take away from the events that unfold at all. The way it was filmed truly takes you into the lives of the people that are featured, the Mayans. There are many debates about whether some of this was fiction or fact and to be honest I truly did not care. The story was plotted out well and some are even debating that, but it is there, none-the-less.
5 thumbs up from this old bird.
Oh, and just incase you are wondering, I did not protest this movie… I just couldn’t get anyone to go see it with me at the theatre.

I dont care what people said about Mel Gibson, thats his stupidity and grief.
You can’t punish all the actors that worked in the film as well as the others is supporting rolls off the screen.
People who do so only hurt others intentionally not Mel Gibson.
It was a great movie and those who haven’t seen it are loosing out by not renting the movie now that its out on DVD.
My son wants to rent that movie. I was one of the ones who didn’t go to the theater. After coming out with Passion of the Christ and then using the racial slurs that he has not once but three times publicly, I do find myself not impressed with the talent I thought he was. I’m thrilled that I saw P of the Christ before he acted like that.
I believe you are right-I’m sure it is a good movie. Mel Gibson has always seemed to spin gold. I just had to be honest and tell you I was one of those who decided not to let him profit from my hard-earned money.
I’m far from perfect though nd I think your post is quite valid and I agree with you about the stones thing. I just wanted to fess up and say I was one of the ones who protested (quietly by not going).
We all have our demons. Mel is no exception.
