Eragon – The Movie VS The Book

Someone please tell me what the producer and director were thinking when they made this movie… Hell, for that matter, what was Christopher Paolini thinking when he approved the script??

For anyone that has not read the book… it is a great movie. The CG alone is fantastic. But for those of us who have read and LOVED the book, the movie is an absolute travesty. This kid started writing this book at the tender age of 14. He had a total grasp for his (then) age of the adult mind.

The book has been compared to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars… but it goes far beyond these similarities. When I saw the movie, to be honest, I was disappointed. They strayed so far from the books plot that it ruined it for me. When you are watching a movie expecting one thing and watch another unfold, to the point of going “Huh?”, then it just ruins the rest of the movie for me. I watched the rest of the movie from that point on just to see what other farces they would throw at us.

For those of you that have neither read the book or seen the movie… take my recommendation, see the movie and then read the book. Don’t let a great movie in itself be ruined by expectations that will never take place. Now I am wondering how they will fix the problems presented by the first movie to make a sequel. I don’t think it can be done.

For those who have seen and read the book… I am interested in your take on it.

The movie is a discrimination to the book, I have no idea what they were thinking but after seeing that movie I have a new born hate inside me, and it’s strong enough to make me cringe at the thought of what they, Fox Studio have created. I have never felt so much hate for the destruction of a beautiful and well imaginative book. I love Eragon the book, I don’t give a dam if some think Christopher took ideas from left right and center of LOTR and Star Wars, I strongly disagree to these statements. To those who believe these statements let me just say that at least he changed it into something others can enjoy, I am an 18 yr old Australian female student, and I love dragons and fantasy. I hate star wars, so at least there’s a “version” out there that can relate to the other half the world who dislike space and aliens, and oversized groaning gorillas!

It’s these movies, which make me want to make a protest against the making of such pitiful movies out of books when they don’t have the SKILLS, opinion of the public AND AUTHOR, GOOD director WITH experience, AND MONEY!!!

There is no way in heck that they can clean up this mess in the sequel, I WANT A REMAKE!!! I want people with the same opinion to rise up and say it!

Well, Fox isn’t known for it’s intelligence when it comes to production and programming, so what else did you expect? After all, they ran “Firefly” out of sequence and wondered why it didn’t do well. Then, even after the fans went nuts, they canceled it. Finally, it had to be made into a Big Damn Movie before anybody at Fox realized that they had screwed up.
What made you think that they would treat “Eregon” any differently? I admit that I haven’t read the book or seen the movie, but I have to say that, from what I have read about the book, it is amazing, and the movie is crap.
As for the critics, don’t sweat them. Every Science-Fiction story since 1977 has been compared to the seminal Sci-Fi story of our generation, “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,” and from here on out they always will be. Every Fantasy story will always be compared to LOTR. Get over it, they are true classics. Imagine trying to write plays after right Shakespeare died…

I was, and still am, HIGHLY disappointed in the movie. I read the book in eighth grade and fell in love with it. The last time, i counted, I had read it about 16 times(yes, I loved it that much, lol) So imagine my excitement when I heard they were making a movie out of it. Now imagine how sick I felt when I watched it. I mean seriously, how do you reduce a 50+ chapter book into a seemingly 30 minute movie???
Yes, had I never read the book, I’m sure I would have loved the movie. But, I don’t like going through a movie pointing out what’s happened and didn’t happen.
Seriously, where was Katrina? WTF, was with those raggedy behind Ra’zac? And I just KNOW Arya was supposed to have dark black hair. What, Fox Studios really can’t afford some hair dye and green contacts??? Come on.

And Christopher… I would love to get inside your head and find out why you would be willing to let them degrade your story. I mean, you deffy could have held out on this offer, man.

OMG and another thing. Why would they end the movie hinting at a sequel. THERE IS NO SEQUEL!!!! You pretty much burnt every bridge to carry the story over to the next 3 books

Ugh, this movie pissed me off, and i PRAY that someone with enough sense would remake this tragedy of a film.

    Signed,
Finally Glad To Get That Off Of My Chest

  6. They can’t even make the second movie because they put half the stuff that took place in the second book in the first movie. I was extremely angry at this movie. This was supposed to be a great movie not only based but straight from the book. Ugh! My skin boils just thinking about it and how the director f***** up one of the greates fantasy stories of all time.

I totally loved the book. I agree that when I watched the movie after the book I was extremely disappointed. When I watched the movie it felt as if it was only a few minutes long compared to the book. I was extremely disappointed in the movie. I own it and have only watched it once. They had great graphics and such but they totally screwed everything else up!!!

This movie was a disappointment to everyone who has read the book in many more than one way. To start i shall begin with just the trailer for it. Automatically i realized this movie was going to be bad just from seeing the characters. They looked nothing like they are described in the book (which was fantastic by the way). Now to start with the movie…. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!!! I honestly wanted to go find the creators slap them over the head with the book and say “THIS IS THE SCRIPT YOU DOLT!”. they ruined everything and completely destroyed the characters. There is no development or emotion from any of them and the death scene of Brom was butchered. Don’t even get me started on the final battle scene…
