Yep, I went to see it and I have to say that Marvel Comics has outdone themselves this time. With an all star cast how could it go wrong? Peter Fonda as the devil himself – Mephistopheles, Nicolas Cage as the man on fire – Johnny Blaze, Ava Mendez as the girl reporter and Johnny’s weakness – Roxanne, Sam Elliot (be still my throbbing heart) as the caretaker and Wes Bentley as Blackheart… son of the devil… literally.
I won’t give away the movie except to say that you need to go see it. The special effects are spectacular and the CG is worked in wonderfully. I love the subtle and not so subtle humor. It was also nice for a change to not have fake blood spurting left and right. I think that maybe the producers got the fact that blood and gore is not really necessary to sell a good tale. You can scare the buhgeebus out of someone if it is done right from the get go.
Ironically, at the end of the movie we sat there watching the credits, frozen in our seats… not even trying to get up… not because they showed anything but the credits but because of the closing song. The hubby and I caught ourselves singing along and didn’t even realize it until the kid fussed and I looked over my shoulder to see everyone else gone…
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way,
When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw,
A-plowin’ through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw.
Yippee-yi-yo, yippee-yi, ghost herd in the sky.
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel,
Their horns were black and shiny and their hots breath he could feel,
A bolt of fear shot through him as he looked up in the sky,
for he saw the riders comin’ hard and he heard their mournful cry.
Yippee-yi-yo, yippee-yi, ghost riders in the sky.
Their faces were gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat,
They’re riding hard to catch that herd, but they ain’t caught ‘em yet,
They’re ridding hard forever on that range up in the sky,
for they’ve got to catch the devil’s herd as they ride on hill and cry.
Yippee-yi-yo, yippee-yi, ghost riders in the sky.
The cowpokes rode on past him and he heard one call his name,
If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on a range,
Then cowboy change your ways today, or with us you will ride,
A-trying to catch the devil’s herd across these endless skies.
Yippee-yi-yo, yippee-yi, the ghost riders in the sky

Thanks for the flick tip. It sounds really good.

LOL…somewhere in my music archives I have the Brothers Four version of the song from the early 1960s…oops, givin’ away my age hyar…
I’m not a movie buff until it comes out on dvd, but that does sound like a goodun! Love those lyrics. I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
I’m always leery of the comic book movies, because I collected them for 25 years, and have trouble considering a movie made by Marvel to be “a different animal.” Some of them have been good, though, like the Spidey movies and the first two X-Men. I was a fan of the 70′s Ghost Rider (which this is based on. He was the middle one of 3 Ghost Riders)and I’m already wondering why they used Blackheart, who first appeared in Daredevil after the 70′s GR was history. I’ll give it a chance, though, and hope for the best. Nick Cage HAS to make another good movie EVENTUALLY. FaceOff sure wasn’t it.
I have been waiting for this movie since last summer, now I KNOW I want to see it, and I don’t get to enjoy it in a theater. Ah, well, I will see it on DVD when it comes out. Thanks…
