I find it hard to believe that it’s Christmas Eve day. I bet that you all find that hard to believe, but it IS true. You see, I was in school for the first two weeks of December, and I don’t really go out or watch television, so I haven’t been exposed to the advertising that is the trademark of this time of year.
Then, of course, you add in the weather here in southwestern Oklahoma, and you see why I find it so difficult to believe that Christmas is tomorrow.
Anyway, my son was visiting me last night and this morning, and we went out to the two local playgrounds. My son, Philip, has discovered that he absolutely loves being able to climb on jungle gyms, and today, he asked me a question that really worried me. He asked, “Daddy, can you help me go upside down?†Of course, since he is only four, I told him, “No.†So he replied, “Okay, Daddy, I’ll teach myself.â€
The irony here is that it takes a four year old boy to teach his father the simple truths in life. Independence, joy, love, all of these are a basic fact in his life, and he is teaching me more than he will ever know.
Merry Christmas, Philip.
