Update on the car situation:
I have a new, used car!! Yayyyyy!!!! We found out that the M-I-L had been home from Florida a whole week and she didn’t let us know. She had bought a new car and had not traded in her old one. We had already offered to buy the old one, but it turned out that the B-I-L (who is well off money wise) bought it from her for us. My concern here after hearing this was the car would end up in WH’s name and I would be without a car to call my own. Since we have been together, WH has owned one car up until a few years ago. This car has not run since my son was born 12 years ago. It is sitting in our basement rusting away… slowly.
Background on his car: He bought this car new off the showroom floor for a little under 7k in 1974. It is 1 of only 500 made. It is a 1974 Spirit of America Chevrolet Nova. Beautiful in its own right, way back when. A collectors dream car. When he blew the engine in it, he never managed to get enough money together to get it repaired. He was once offered 5 grand for it and he turned the money down… get this… it was about 8 years ago and the car was sitting where it is now, NOT RUNNING. He does have the original engine sitting on the basement floor and all is original except the exhaust system. He still holds on to the dream that he will be able to restore it. It does not matter that we are and stay broke.
All cars, up until we bought our Jeep, were mine. Back then I made great money. I had three vehicles… a Isuzu Pup, A Dodge Van, and a Taurus. All are gone now except the broken Taurus. The van is still in my name but sits broken in his nephew’s yard. At the time we bought the Jeep, I was still making very good money and I needed a reliable car to work out of. My credit sucked big time. I was forced to use my money and his credit. Needless to say the Jeep was placed in his name. I drove the Jeep for work up until I was hurt in a car accident. Then I was forced to resign my position at work (long story). WH took the Jeep and started driving it. Now, because it is in his name, the Jeep has become his. Taken from me by a vindictive male ego. I have to ask permission to drive it.

Jeep Wreck
Here is the first Jeep I bought, a 2001 model… after the accident. It was replaced with a 2002, silver one without the bush guard on the front.
When my Taurus overheated and cracked the radiator, I was forced to share rides with him to work. I went in later than he did and so I drove him to work and I would later go and pick him up. I almost felt like I had my Jeep back. But, as previously written, the ride was a bitch-fest from start to finish, morning and evening. When we found out we could get M-I-L’s car I was estatic! That lasted 2 days. B-I-L was kind enough to purchase the car for us, but this meant the car would not be in my name. If I was to leave… the car would have to remain behind. I was crushed, needless to say.
I am slowly regaining the confidence that I need to make it on my own when I decide it is time to get out of this non-marriage… this was one of those stepping blocks. I also found out I could get my Taurus repaired if I want for the sum of 500.00… but I think I sit on it a while… you never know… that divine intervention may twist on me and I could be without a car again. This new, used car is a 93 Chevy Lumina… it runs great, but it is still in the testing stage to make sure it will cut the mustard and not leave me stranded somewhere. I had the car serviced today, as it had been sitting a year and a half. New battery, oil change, radiator flush, and lubed. Runs quiet and passed Emissions. It is going too right… and I am waiting for that left turn to catch up with me.
Another day in paradise, eh? How was your week so far?
