It was a dark and stormy night. All was finally calm in the house. I had waited all day in anticipation of the storm. I quietly slipped out the back door and breathed in that wonderful smell of rain. So cleansing, how nice it would be to wash away all the roughness of the day. I set my drink down on the table and slowly walked into the rain. Tilting my head up and enjoying the rain sliding down my face and neck, soaking my clothes. I held my arms out away from my body and just let the rain fall on me, stripping away the stress and craziness of the day.
Lightning flashed. I could see the trees, a black silhouette against the night sky. The trees, so tall and straight, withstanding all the elements. How like them I wish to be. The flash lighting up the sky, then I’m blind from the blackness of the night. Wiping my head clear of everything except the feel of the storm. I reach up high letting the rain wash down my face, taking my tears with it.
Thunder crashed. The sound vibrating through my body, as I stand tall, taking the lashing the rain is giving me. I turn slowly, arms raised towards the fighting sky. Lightning battling thunder. Flashing and vibrating sound all around me, surrounding my body, my mind. The rain drenching me, sliding down and washing away all the roughness. Leaving me feeling strong. There I stand straight and tall, letting Nature give me strength.
The storm fades, but the rain still slides down me. I turn around and see him standing there. He’s just watching and waiting, knowing that soon I will be there. Someday will come, and I will twine my fingers with his and know that my strength not only comes from within me, but in giving myself to him. And just like the trees, together we will withstand all the elements.
