I know, you are all tired of hearing about the Schiavo case… but!

I have been following this case on the news just as every other breathing person on the planet has, and I know everyone has had an opinion on this. Most of what I have seen and read are either right-to-lifers who never knew her or Doctors trying to explain their side of the case. Lawyers reasoning why the courts want to stay out of it or just ordinary people who are just plain angry about it.

Here is an calm adult/parental observation:

First, yes, she should have had a living will. When Schiavo was first injured by her heart attack, living wills were a new thing. The courts were still undecided on how to handle this type of case. I would not have had one back then either nor would 2/3′s of those who have one now.

As an adult, if you want some wishes taken care of in case of an early death or an accident that would leave your family without you… make it known. Write it down and have it drawn into your will. If nothing else, at least write it down and keep it in a safe place. Here is listing by state where you can aquire the paperwork needed for your own living will.

I, for one, would not want to be kept alive in this manner if I was in her place, IF all reasonable doubt had been removed of ever recovering. It is not living, it is existing without your knowledge. You have no way of expressing emotion or expressing pain. This is not for me.

BUT…

As a parent, I know I would fight tooth and nail to keep my child alive. Parents are not supposed to outlive their children. I could not and would not allow ANYONE to come between me and my child. I can understand Schiavo’s parents plight. Her parents are having to watch her die slowly, how cruel is that? I know I could not bear it if I had to watch my son go that way.

Her husband has moved on to another woman and had children by her. What does he care if she lives or dies? My only reasoning here is there must be a pending insurance policy or it is all about money in some way. He needs to drop the whole thing and let her parents continue their efforts. In her condition, she cannot have that many years left as it is. Let the poor woman die of natural causes, not starvation.

Dehydrating and starving this woman to death is cruel, inhumane and down right evil.

I am not your typical christian woman. I believe there is a higher power out there. I believe that we are all here for a purpose. I worship the earth and all her glories. I am, I guess, what you could call a semi-pagan. I don’t believe in churches as a whole; to me they are just social gathering places most times and a total waste of space that could be filled with the earths natural beauty. But, I cannot believe that playing the Creator is the answer here, and that is exactly what Schiavo’s ex is doing in my opinion.

Ok I said my piece… Carlo, your thoughts?
